Cats, cocktails, class, compassion. Talk about the perfect woman. Audrey Hepburn was one classy dame, to employ the parlance of her era. Beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated, talented, fashionable. But above all else was her humanity, which shone brightly throughout her long, lustrous life. She championed the causes of human rights; of love, peace, and universal brotherhood.
After a trip to Africa revealed to her how people there lived, she said, "I have a broken heart. I feel desperate. I can't stand the idea that two million people are in imminent danger of starving to death, many of them children. The 'Third World' is a term I don't like very much," she said, "because we're all one world. I want people to know that the largest part of humanity is suffering.” Yes. Empathy. Perhaps the greatest gift that anyone may possess.
A favorite story of mine regarding her is the one where she named one of her cats “Tomorrow” so she could pet it and say, "Things will be better, Tomorrow.”

THE AUDREY HEPBURN
1½ part Broker’s Gin
½ part Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth
¼ part Liquore Strega
¼ part Aperitivo Cocchi Americano
1 part Sanpellegrino Prickly Pear & Orange
¼ part fresh-squeezed Lime juice
dash of Fee Brothers Rhubarb bitters
Shake everything but the Sanpellegrino over ice.
Stir in Sanpellegrino, then strain into a chilled
cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist.
